Association: Dearborn Area Board of Realtors®
Club: Lloyd H. Diehl Club
Activity: Build a Battlefield

May 2016: This year, NAR President Tom Salamone launched a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the DABOR decided to join the effort. We learned of this particular club from a neighboring business that is involved with the club as we do not have a club in our immediate area. After our initial meeting, we were impressed with the director and did our first project which was a Holiday Toy Drive. Afterwards, we learned that at the top of their wish list was to clear their grounds and renovate their baseball field which is in disrepair. The children play on a league and their field had not been maintained for quite some time. It was not even regulation size! This May, the Dearborn Area Board of Realtors® rallied together and remedied that. DABOR contacted the Detroit Tigers for assistance and their grounds team was able to measure the field and install anchors for the bases. With the help of donations from affiliates and members, DABOR installed a new gate at the entrance to the field, measured and cut the field to regulation size, weeded, repaired the bleachers and cleaned up the club grounds. There were trucks and dumpsters filled with brush and sod, plenty of sweat and teamwork. It was a great experience as the Realtors®! Some of their own children, club members and the staff worked together to accomplish this goal. We hope to continue our relationship with the Lloyd H. Diehl Club as we enjoyed getting to know the children there. This proves that with teamwork and a little help from your friends you can tackle what seems an impossible task…and then some.

Club: BGC of Southeastern Michigan
Activity: Leadership Academy Team Building Bicycles

January 2016: The Michigan Realtors® Leadership Academy Class of 2016 met for their first session of the year on January 21st, 2016 in Dearborn, Michigan. Through team-building activities that were designed to test and challenge their communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, the class split into three teams to build bicycles for the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. Unaware that the bicycles would be presented upon completion, both the children and academy students were surprised to meet in person after lunch and share in what would become a very memorable experience. "Our children are our future. I cannot think of a better investment of our time! This event demonstrated the power of giving back to your local community while building leadership skills. As Realtors®, we look forward to the continued support of our Boys & Girls Clubs of Michigan.” said 2016 Michigan Realtors® President, Gary J. Reggish.
