NAR Director Elections

In 2016, the Michigan Realtors® Board of Directors enacted a policy to encourage greater involvement by Small and Medium sized boards in the NAR Director Election process. In doing so, they categorized the following special NAR Directorships to be elected by the Delegate Body every 3 years:

  • One Small Board NAR Directorship. The Small Board NAR Directorship is a 3-year term for qualified candidates from local associations with 1-500 members.
  • One Medium Board NAR Directorship. The Medium Board NAR Directorship is a 3-year term for qualified candidates from local associations with 501-1999 members;

Two of the NAR Director seats up for election this year will be the Small Board and Medium Board categories, to be elected by the full Delegate Body. Any additional NAR Directorships not otherwise allocated will be considered at-large for any qualified candidate to seek election. The criteria for all NAR Director candidates are as follows:

  • Three years as a Michigan Realtors® member, and currently a member;
  • Licensed as a broker, salesperson or appraiser in Michigan;
  • No license law violations that are indicative or moral turpitude
  • Demonstrated leadership by one or more of the following:
    • Prior or current director or officer of a local association or the state association
    • Prior or current president of a NAR affiliated institute and/or society or council at the state level;
    • Demonstration of participation in the National Association of Realtors® (i.e., attendance at business meetings, committee meetings, or forums).

NAR Directors are voted on by the Delegate Body at the Delegate Body meeting at the State Convention. NAR Directors will serve a three-year term beginning 2020. The number of open NAR Director positions will be determined by July 31, 2019 and noticed to the membership immediately thereafter with the dates of the nomination process included in that mailing.

This year’s convention is being held October 2-4, 2019 at The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.
