MAR hosts local AE meeting

On February 28, MAR hosted a Mardi Gras themed appreciation meeting for local association executives. In a well-attended event, the local executives were provided updates by MAR CEO Bill Martin, Vice President of Public Policy Rob Campau and Senior Vice President, Kathie Feldpausch. Patrick Anderson of Anderson Economic Group gave a presentation on economic forecasting data they will be compiling for MAR members.

At its February 16th meeting, the MAR board of directors approved funds to employ Anderson Economic Group to provide MAR with a year of market-specific information. MAR will provide this information to members who can utilize it to better manage their business opportunities.

Specifically, Anderson Economic Group will include current economic and demographic conditions in Michigan, conditions of specific regions of the state – where these differ significantly from the state as a whole, the likely effects of those conditions on demand for residential property purchases over the next 12 months based on the relationship between these conditions and real estate transaction prices.

The local association executives were given the opportunity to ask questions about the plan and how data would be gathered. Individual members of the group also provided Mr. Anderson ideas on specific data that would be most helpful to them.

Bill Martin provided an overview of fair housing that included MAR’s Fair Housing Task Force’s recommendation for mandatory fair housing training that would count toward a REALTOR’S® CE requirement. The group also discussed MAR conducting fair housing testing to better educate its members.

Other topics covered at the event included RPAC rules and regulations, updated GRI instructor policy guidelines, the NAR’s Presidential Advisory Group as well as a public policy update. A folder with handouts on all of these topics plus MLS branding and media training was provided to each attendee.

All the attendees also received the 2006 Candidate Interview Manual on CD. Previously, MAR has printed these and mailed them to each association. This version allows associations to view the document electronically and print as many copies as the association wishes. This manual is also available on MAR’s web site. Download manual

Attendees were also reminded that the Broker Summit will be held April 11 – 12 at the Somerset Inn in Troy and MAR’s 2006 Convention and Expo will be held at the Amway Grand Plaza & Hotel in Grand Rapids, September 25 – 27. The theme for this year’s convention is the 1960’s. Each association was provided with posters to help market both events. Extra posters are available upon request.

It was also announced that the convention will be featuring a top 30 under 30 panel, and associations should nominate members they feel would qualify. MAR is also looking for a member to sing the National Anthem at this year’s event.

The day also featured networking opportunities as well as a luncheon.

If you were not able to attend the Association Executive’s meeting on February 28 and would like to receive the materials, please email MAR’s Director of Communications Corie Costello at ccostello@mirealtors.com.
