2008 AQB qualification criteria changes

Senate Bill 1016 was introduced to the Senate on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, which has amended Article 26 of the Michigan Occupational Code to adopt the 2008 AQB Qualification Criteria for all levels of licensure in Michigan taking effect January 1, 2008.

The Department of Labor & Economic Growth plans to implement the firm date scenario for the 2008 AQB Qualification Criteria. Under this plan, all applicants submitting applications beginning in January 2008 must meet the new criteria, including education, experience and exam. Applications received by the department prior to January 1, 2008 must meet the current education and experience requirements by December 31, 2007 to qualify to take the examinations required for state licensed, certified residential or certified general real estate appraiser licensure. This means that an applicant must meet the current criteria for experience and education by December 31, 2007; and, the Department must receive this applicant’s application by December 31, 2007. Applicants have one year from the date the department approves them to take and pass the exam. No extensions will be given for exam approval. If the applicant fails to take and pass the exam within this year, he/she must reapply and meet the 2008 qualification criteria upon reapplication. In order to take the current license exam, applicants must take and pass the appraiser exam before January 1, 2008. If these applicants cannot take the exam prior to January 1, 2008 or fail to pass the exam by this date, they must take and pass the revised 2008 criteria examination.
