REALTOR® Focus: Carol Griffith
The Brighton Area Women's History Roll of Honor has added five new women to the list this year, bringing the total list of honorees to 59 women. Among the inductees is 2013 MAR President Elect, Carol Griffith.
A 1976 Brighton High School graduate, Carol Griffith is a third-generation REALTOR® serving the Livingston County area for more than 30 years. She is vice president and co-owner of ERA Griffith Realty and was named the 2006 Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Organization. In addition, she was the Livingston County Realtor of the Year in 1983 and 2005, and is president-elect for the Michigan Association of Realtors. She was elected as one of the 2006 Most Influential Women in Business.
Griffith has been a Livingston County commissioner since 2009 and was elected chairwoman of the board in 2013. Active several years in the Howell Rotary Club, Griffith served as president in 2005 and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2008.

In late January a notable group of government, business and finance leaders came together in Pontiac to celebrate a new beginning for the city of Pontiac. The event was the grand opening of the Lafayette Place Development, As the city’s largest downtown construction investment in more than 30 years, it was a proud moment for all present, including MAR’s District 9 Director, Allan Daniels.

On September 20th the Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit hosted its 14th awards reception, recognizing those who work hard to make fair housing a reality. We would especially like to thank and recognize Tom Kotzian, J.D. a recipient of the Fair Housing Leadership Award.
For more than 30 years as a REALTOR® Tom has dedicated himself to helping other REALTORS® learn, understand and uphold fair housing laws. He has also written extensively on the subject of fair housing, prepares his own training materials and is always happy to offer expert advice. As if that weren’t enough, Tom is also a member of MAR’s Board of Directors, so we are especially grateful to him for all of his hard work and we proudly congratulate him for this very well-deserved award.

Vito Pampalona Wins National Volunteer Award for Supporting Wounded Soldiers |

REALTOR® Vito A. Pampalona, a broker with Vito Anthony Homes in Rochester, Mich., is one of five winners chosen by the National Association of REALTORS® as REALTOR® Magazine’s 2011 Good Neighbor Award winners. Pampalona was selected for his devotion to helping injured soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
“The Good Neighbor Awards program acknowledges REALTORS® who are dedicated to strengthening communities through volunteer work and helping those in need,” said NAR President Ron Phipps, broker-president of Phipps Realty in Warwick, R.I. “As a past Good Neighbor Award recipient, I know of the tremendous effort and time these winners devote to each of their causes. Vito’s cause is close to his heart, a veteran himself he dedicates his time to welcoming home our nation’s soldiers with open arms.”
Pampalona, a Vietnam War veteran, has spent the past eight years raising money—a total of nearly $500,000—and giving his time to show gratitude to thousands of patients at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Known as “Uncle Vito” to Walter Reed staff and patients, he has made sure that recovering soldiers have workout clothes, a pantry full of healthy snacks, movies to watch, a collection of books and audio books and presents at an annual Christmas party.

Seventeen REALTORS® who have demonstrated personal and professional success in their respective local markets recently were selected to participate in the 2012 class of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Leadership Academy, an initiative designed to nurture and inspire new leaders in the real estate industry. Among those selected is NAR director, RPAC Trustee and WWOCAR member Gary J. Reggish, CRS, SFR. Gary, along with other Academy participants, will undergo a challenging series of team-building exercises and workshops scheduled over six months.
