Professional Standards Complaints on the Rise

Many local associations have been experiencing an increase in Professional Standards complaints. Over the past six months there have been more calls about possible violations of the Code of Ethics as well as requests for arbitration and commission disputes.

MAR does offer an online toolkit for Professional Standards managers. MAR’s toolkit integrates the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Practice into everyday practice. The toolkit provides association executives and committee members with a versatile and effective platform of learning options that they can, in turn, customize for their professional standards education experience.

Access the MAR Professional Toolkit Here.

It is important to remember when handling Professional Standards complaints, that these individuals are members, and they are part of the REALTOR® family. This should be kept in mind and incorporated in all aspects of managing the Professional Standards process.

Member Comes to Rescue

Recently, a MAR member was involved in a rescue and resuscitation of an accident victim on Coldwater Lake. Along with some friends, Nick Longstreet, a member of the Branch County Board of REALTORS®, discovered a Jet Ski floating in the water without a rider. As they approached the Jet Ski, they found a man face down in the water. The man was not breathing and needed CPR. Nick performed mouth-to-mouth and the man was breathing on his own before rescue personnel arrived.

This is just a reminder of how important it is to always be vigilant of your surroundings as we go through our daily busy lives.
