MAR Accepting Nominations for REALTOR® Active in Politics Award
The time is now to nominate the annual recipient of the REALTOR® Active in Politics Award! Help us recognize a REALTOR® that gives of their time and effort in promoting the real estate industry and private property rights. Each local association can nominate one member. The RAP Selection Committee will determine the winner from the nominations submitted by the local associations. Nominees should be members that promote participation in politics within our membership and/or work to advance MAR’s agenda with elected officials. Candidates are judged based on active support and leadership of membership through political involvement at the state and local association levels, personal involvement with influencing public policy, and promotion and contribution to RPAC. NAR involvement is also taken into consideration. Click here to submit a nomination form on the MAR website. The deadline for MAR to receive all local association nominations is July 30th.

Annual Summer Seminar Brings Together Michigan and Ohio Local Executives
On June 18-20, over 63 association executives and staff from across Michigan and Ohio held a joint summer seminar in Sandusky, Ohio. This educational event featured dynamic speakers and networking opportunities as well as a RPAC auction. The auction raised over $3,000 for Ohio and Michigan RPACs.
To kick things off, our own Bill Martin and Ohio CEO Don Freels gave a joint presentation with an overview of what is happening in each of their states. Other speakers for the event included Gregg Larson of Clareity Consulting and Keith Garner from the NAR Center for Real Estate Technology who spoke about what’s next for the association and MLS. Harry K. Jones of AchieveMax, Inc gave an entertaining presentation about “back-to-the-basics approach to creativity and innovation.” And Isham Jones III from NAR Associate Counsel wrapped up the event with a NAR legal update.
The annual summer seminar provides a unique environment for the exchange of ideas between local associations, who often join together in providing programs and services. The hope is to create another joint seminar, to be held in Michigan, in 2009.
Please visit the MRAEC Web site for copies of speaker presentations, sponsor information and attendee roster.

REALTOR® of the Year Nominations
The REALTOR® of the Year Recognition Task Force would like to do something a little different this year by contacting each of the local ROTY winners to get a quote from them for presentation at the Grand Assembly. In order to do this MAR needs to be able to contact each of the winners by late July, early August as we need to have all audio/video submitted for convention by September 1st.
Just a reminder, ROTY forms along with a high quality photo need to be submitted to Julie Rowell by August 1st. The form can be found online at the convention Web site. If for some reason you cannot download the form, please contact Julie at jrowell@mirealtors.com and she will fax a copy to you.
